This week I finally figured out where I will be located in China this summer. I knew I was going to be about an hour away from Shanghai, but that's not very specific. Apparently I'm going to be living in Kunshan, a city located northeast of Shanghai. I've been trying to do some research about this place, but I haven't been that successful. I don't think that any amount of research is really going to fully prepare me for life in China. It's going to have to be one of those trial by fire learning experiences.

The more I think about it and the closer to gets to July, the more excited I get. Right now, I'm just trying to get my things in order before I leave. I realize I have so much to do! Mostly I'm just trying to get my camera equipment together. I bought a small lens (Nikon 50mm f/1.4) so I can just carry my camera with me all the time in China. I'm trying to figure out how I'm going to backup all my images (burning DVDs? carrying external hard drives?). I'm looking for a new reliable laptop, unlike my last one where the screen and hard drive failed :(.

Really, more than anything I should be brushing up on my Mandarin, but I'll leave that to another entry...
